It’s been more than nine years since the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ last studio album, but that will change this fall when the Karen O-led rock trio releases fresh music as part of a new deal with Secretly Canadian. The group, which also includes guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase, released its four prior albums, beginning with its acclaimed 2003 debut, Fever to Tell, through Interscope.

“Yeah Yeah Yeahs are not only living legends but they’re legends still operating at peak power 20-pus years into their career as a band,” Secretly Group VP of A&R Jon Coombs tells SPIN. “Karen, Nick and Brian are the holiest of unholy trinities and we are so excited to be partnering with them on their first album in nearly a decade. It was worth the wait.”

A brief snippet of new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music can be heard in a video trailer announcing two big outdoor concerts this fall: October 1 at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium just outside of Manhattan and October 6 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Both will feature support from teenage rock quartet The Linda Lindas, while Japanese Breakfast will also be a part of the L.A. show lineup. Tickets go on sale Friday (May 6).

“Representin’ a few generations yo! Cannot wait to see you there! New music! New era! And new home with Secretly Canadian! Much to celebrate!,” Karen O says.

The group had previously announced a handful of summer dates, beginning June 5 in Manchester, England, and including two Australian shows with support from Wet Leg in late July and a July 29 appearance at Montreal’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival.

The as-yet-untitled new album is the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s Mosquito. Karen O has released two solo albums, including 2019’s Lux Prima in collaboration with producer Danger Mouse. The music from that project was turned into an immersive live experience for which Karen O collaborated with her husband, director Barnaby Clay.
