Today, in her first new music since her 2019 solo debut, Kim Gordon shared “Grass Jeans,” furthering her support against Texas’ recent passing of the most restrictive abortion law in the country.

The Sonic Youth founder, vocalist, and bassist recorded the new track with her touring band members Sterling Laws, Sarah Register, and Camilla Charlesworth.  All proceeds from the month of December for “Grass Jeans” will benefit Fund Texas Choice (formerly Fund Texas Women), a non-profit that pays for Texans’ travel to abortion clinics. Gordon and Sonic Youth recently unearthed two live records to further support Texas abortion rights groups, Live In Austin 1995 and Live In Dallas 2006. Gordon has long been outspoken about progressive causes, including her support for Bernie Sanders in the 2020 presidential campaign.

“I often get asked, ‘Can music change things for people in a political landscape?’” Gordon asked in a statement. “Hell yes it can . . . but it takes a listener, an audience to make it anything. So please join me in helping to protect and keep accessible a woman’s right to choose her fate by purchasing this song and supporting Fund Texas Choice and their collective efforts to secure abortion access for all. Thank you. It means so much.”
