Pharrell Williams decided there is something in the water. No, literally — the producer’s Something in the Water Festival will return this year in Washington D.C. over Juneteenth (June 19) weekend. It previously took place in Virginia.
Artists on the bill include Tyler, the Creator, Dave Matthews Band, Usher, 6lack, Lil Baby, Grammy-winner Jon Batiste, Pusha T, Lil Uzi Vert among many more.
And that’s just the beginning. The festival promises that more artists will be added ahead of the event.
Over the weekend of June 17-19, the festival will also feature Go-Go musicians including Backyard Band, Rare Essence, and Sound of the City. The event is produced by Redrock Entertainment and Live Nation and was expanded this year to host three stages on Independence Avenue in the heart of our nation’s capital.
Three-day passes go on sale at 10 am local time on Saturday, April 30 via the fest’s site. Because the festival was canceled due to COVID the last couple of years, ticket holders of the canceled fests now have access to an exclusive pre-sale beginning at 10 am ET on Wednesday, April 27 until 10 pm ET on Thursday, April 28.
“Something In The Water is a Black solution (LOVE) for a systemic issue,” Pharrell said in a statement “And this year we are taking our celebration to a higher platform — the nation’s Capital during Juneteenth Weekend. We want to show the world that there is Something In The Water across the whole DMV and I want to continue to bring awareness to the greatness within these communities and invite large corporations to show up for the people. DC has always been a deep inspiration to me as a person and a musician.
“It is the land where Go- Go music was birthed which has provided so much for our people. Our sponsors continue to go the extra mile to show that Something In The Water is so much more than a festival. The goodwill we generate is a defining trait of who we are.”
Something In The Water was first idealized in 2020 when Pharrell first tried to persuade his home state of Virginia to recognize Juneteenth as a paid holiday. President Joe Biden signed a law making Juneteenth a federal holiday last year.
