Singer/songwriter Noah Kahan is heralding the follow-up to 2022’s omnipresent Stick Season with the Jan. 30 release of a new Mercury single, “The Great Divide.” Kahan co-wrote the track with longtime collaborator Gabe Simon and has been playing it routinely since its live debut in April 2024.

No other details have yet been announced regarding Kahan’s next full-length, although SPIN understands that he worked on portions of it with producer/songwriter Aaron Dessner of the National (Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams). Kahan has performed a handful of other unreleased songs at recent shows, including “Deny Deny Deny,” but it’s unclear if they’ll all also appear on the next album.

“If I make another album about New England, and everybody is like, ‘you already did this’ but it was what made me happy, then I’m willing to take whatever criticism or whatever career repercussions there are,” he told SPIN in 2024.

Earlier this month, Kahan hosted his Out of the Blue festival in Cancun and played both a regular set and a special covers night, the latter of which featured him flanked by guests such as Gigi Perez, Michael Marcagi, Tiny Habits and flipturn to dust off oldies such as Counting Crows’ “A Long December,” Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Our House,” Radiohead’s “No Surprises” and Cat Stevens’ “Wild World.”

For now, Kahan’s only confirmed show this year will come at the Bonnaroo festival outside Nashville in June.
