Foo Fighters were supposed to return to the road for the first time in more than a year — and with brand new drummer Ilan Rubin — on Oct. 2 in Jakarta. But Dave Grohl and company clearly couldn’t wait to get back onstage, which they’ll do tomorrow (Sept. 13) at the 900-capacity Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, Ca.

The news was announced late tonight on social media, with fans being directed to in-person sales at the venue box office as the only way to gain entry to the all-ages gig. Tickets are a mere $30, and more details can be found on the Foos’ web site. Sources say additional pop-up gigs in other parts of the U.S. will take place in the days ahead.

The band is also teasing a new song, a hard-rocking snippet of which can be heard alongside the Instagram post announcing the San Luis Obispo show. For now, no further details have emerged.

The Foos have been off the road since September 2024 following the revelation that Grohl had fathered a child with a woman other than his wife. In May, the band parted ways with drummer Josh Freese, who had filled the Foos’ drum role since 2023 in the wake of Taylor Hawkins’ sudden death in March 2022.

Before Rubin was revealed as the new drummer in late July, a new track, “Today’s Song,” was released on July 2. In a bizarre twist, Freese quickly replaced Rubin in Nine Inch Nails just before the start of the Trent Reznor-led band’s own North American tour, which closes Sept. 19 in Los Angeles.
