And there you have it. The Weeknd will be joining Swedish House Mafia next Sunday at Coachella. The combination will replace Kanye West, who dropped out earlier this week. Coachella is teasing it as a party/after-party. Probably that it will be a Weeknd set followed by a late Swedish House Mafia set. That would be similar to 2012 when the Swedish trio went on after the Black Keys’ headlining set. Either way, the festival moved fast and enlisted a headliner that will appeal to its audience.
A lot of names were floating earlier in the week, but this seems like the most logical conclusion considering The Weeknd’s stadium headliner stature and his history with the festival.
The festival announced the news in a tweet on Wednesday morning.

Previously, Swedish House Mafia’s return to Coachella was billed as a special set at the bottom of the poster. Now, that set is clearly a headlining one.
West dropped out of the festival’s Sunday headlining slot unexpectedly without any reason cited.
Coachella will take place April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. As of now, Frank Ocean is slated to be one of the headliners in 2023.
