“We met when Matt had another band—a more jam-bandy type—and he reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in singing with them,” vocalist Alyssa Coco recalls of first meeting guitarist Matt Merritt, the other half of Roses & Revolutions. “I went to an audition—my dad drove me, of course, haha—and Matt and I really clicked musically, so the rest was history.” But not before taking Alyssa’s middle name—Rose—and combining it with Matt’s father’s suggestion for “Revolutions” to create the perfect band name. “And we just loved the sound of it!” she says.

Together, the Rochester, New York-based duo make truly beautiful music. There’s something epic and fantastical about the songs they create, marked by Alyssa’s emotionally unguarded vocals. Alyssa describes their style as “kind of folky, singer/songwriter with some fierceness.”

Their latest project, Midnight Monsters, released last October “was definitely a result of late, isolated walks at night in our little village in New York,” Alyssa explains. “During the pandemic, we would drive to the little village near us around midnight and just walk. It started as just a way to get out of the house, but then turned into an inspiring routine that always resulted in a song, or a feeling, at least.”

Here’s a day in the life of Alyssa Coco of Roses & Revolutions.

Breakfast consists of  Always some sort of toast. Today was avocado toast with Sriracha.

To get going I always  Drink 24oz of water (my water bottle full), a cup of coffee and my vitamins!

I don’t feel dressed without  My jewelry.

Before I start working I must  Return emails, cross the T’s and dot the I’s on the business front.

Currently working on  A batch of new tunes!

But I’d really love to be  Playing The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of TimeonN64 (current chill-out method).

I don’t know how anyone ever  Drinks tea INSTEAD of coffee.

If I had to play one album on repeat, it would be  Punisherby Phoebe Bridgers.

The perfect midday consists of  Typically, not having anywhere to go. And if it’s not an obligation, going to grab a midday cup of coffee at a local shop or Starbucks.

To help get through the day I need  Matt!

Not a day goesby without speaking to  My mom.

My daydreams consist of  Playing shows, touring, the world feeling normal again.

In a perfect day, in a perfect world  We would be in a new city, walking around, exploring before we play to an audience of new faces.

I’ll always fight for  Love.

Currently in love with  Succession (the HBO show).
