How’s this for an end-of-the-year surprise? For a limited time, the Foo Fighters have shared a full stream of their June 2021 show at Madison Square Garden. The multi-camera recording captured the first arena show in New York City since before the pandemic hit and was the first full-capacity show as well.
The band teased the stream of the show in the days prior to its release.
“June 20th, 2021: Rock and Roll returns to @TheGarden streaming for a limited time,” the Foo Fighters wrote in a tweet on Thursday. “Can’t wait to see you all again soon!!!”
As for the show itself, it featured many of the Foos’ biggest hits and a surprise appearance by Dave Chappelle. The comedian joined the band for a version of Radiohead’s “Creep,” where he featured on vocals. The show also featured the band covering the Bee Gees’ You Should Be Dancing” (a precursor for the Dee Gees that would be released the following month) and Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”
The Foo Fighters dedicated the show to Andy Pollard, their stage manager of 12 years, who died on June 18. You can read our review of the show here.
As for the rest of 2021, to say Dave Grohl and company were busy would be an understatement. They released their 10th studio album, Medicine at Midnight. The Foo Fighters are releasing a film, a horror-comedy titled Studio 666, in February that “chronicled” those sessions. They’ll be hitting the road in 2022. Oh yeah, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in October.
