American Football has announced an extensive 2026 world tour that is expected to come in support of the influential Midwestern band’s fourth album, which has been teased on social media but not yet officially confirmed. Dates begin May 15 in Denver and wrap up Aug. 16 in Minneapolis.
Support acts for the run include Mei Semones, Marconi Union, IAN SWEET and Afternoon Bike Ride. An artist presale for tickets starts tomorrow (Feb. 4), with the general on-sale to follow Friday. American Football is teaming with PLUS1 to donate $1 from every ticket sold to Safe Passage International abd The Illinois Coalition for Immigration & Refugee Rights in response to the recent escalation of ICE raids in U.S. cities.
American Football toured in 2024 and 2025 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its beloved self-titled debut, the Urbana, Il., house on the cover of which has become arguably as well known as the band’s music. The Mike Kinsella-led group was inactive from 2000 until 2014 but has released two self-titled studio albums since reforming. The most recent, in 2019, featured guest appearances by Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell.
“The production and arrangements also benefit from an increased polish,” SPIN wrote in its contemporary review. “The mix alone is much more interesting — bright reverb tails accentuate every snare hit, making the drums sound as vast as the outdoor landscape on the cover.”
When not working with American Football, Kinsella and his cousin Nate released the 2023 self-titled debut with their synth-leaning side project Lies. The following year, Mike Kinsella brought forth the 11th album from his Owen project, The Falls of Sioux.
In related news, the American Football track “Never Meant” will be added on Thursday to Fortnite Festival, a free rhythm-based music game developed by Guitar Hero/Rock Band creator Harmonix.
