After weeks of breathless online speculation, British rapper EsDeeKid and actor Timothée Chalamet confirmed Friday (Dec. 19) that they aren’t, in fact, the same person by appearing together in a video for a remix of the former’s song “4 Raws.” It’s also no surprise that the reveal came just ahead of the Dec. 25 wide release for Chalamet’s next film, the Oscar buzz-generating Marty Supreme.
Chalamet’s “4 Raws” verse gleefully plays into the rumors, with rhymes such as “my life is an opera / look at the Oscars / look at the groupies / look at the movies” and a bar about “model bitches in Peckham / I’m Ryan Reynolds in Wrexham / I’m having fun just sexting.”
The joke is further paid off by the actor referencing a prior hip-hop alter ego, Lil’ Timmy Tim, who began rapping in the early 2010s and released several tracks. Click the embed below for the full video.
As for EsDeeKid, the Liverpool-reared artist is never seen without a balaclava, allowing him to keep his real identity unknown throughout the Chalamet-associated hubbub. He’s been releasing music since 2023 but popped in recent months after the arrival of his debut album, Rebel, which reached the top 10 of the U.K. charts.
Speculation that EsDeeKid and Chalamet weren’t two distinct people began online last month based on the thinnest of evidence, including that Chalamet had gone to a concert by EsDeeKid collaborator fakemink in London back in August and that Chalamet likes rap music.
When he was asked point blank about the rumors during a U.K. interview last week, Chalamet gave a “no comment” and added that “all will be revealed in due time.”
