Harry Styles just released his third album, Harry’s House, and the 13-song project just further proves that the former One Direction star is heavily influenced by classic rock. As a solo artist, Styles has garnered comparisons to Mick Jagger, but from the sounds of it the Rolling Stones frontman isn’t too pleased with those.
During an interview with the Times UK, Jagger made some interesting comments about the pop star. After admitting he has “an easy relationship” with Styles, the rock icon made some subtle jabs.
“I mean, I used to wear a lot more eye make-up than him. Come on, I was much more androgynous,” Jagger noted. “And he doesn’t have a voice like mine or move on stage like me; he just has a superficial resemblance to my younger self, which is fine — he can’t help that.”
Styles cited Jagger as a big influence during a 2019 interview with L’Officiel. “When I look at them, I don’t know what it is, but it’s this, this something special,” he said, referring to Jagger as well as other superstars.
Jagger had nicer words to say about Styles during an interview in 2015. “He’s got it going on. I know him, he comes to see me in lots of shows,” he said at the time. “And yeah, I can see the influence. But I don’t say anything to him, I just tell him he looks nice. I like him. He’s very decent.”
Speaking of artists he likes, Jagger recently praised Yungblud and Machine Gun Kelly for breathing “a bit of life in rock and roll.”
