It turns out that the wheel in the sky does keep on turning. For the first time in 11 years, pop-rock icons and continued classic rock radio staples Journey are back. The band shared details for their 15th studio album, Freedom, and released its first single, “You Got the Best of Me.” The band’s previous release was 2011’s Eclipse.

As for the single, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers’ latest song has fingerprints from the band’s hit-making past.

“I wanted kind of a punky rendition of ‘Any Way You Want It,’” guitarist Neal Schon says about the single. “I usually don’t go in saying I’m going to look for something like that, but then it just came to me, like ‘Wheel in the Sky’ did years ago. It just kind of flew out of my mouth.”

Longtime keyboarder Jonathan Cain and vocalist Arnel Pineda joined forces with on-again/off-again bassist (and former American Idol judge) Randy Jackson to record Freedom. Jackson last played on the band’s 1986 Raised on Radio.

Journey has been on tour with Toto. They have a few more shows this April, and will continue performing in May throughout the U.S. and Canada. Alongside a symphony orchestra, the band will play four nights in July at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas.

Last year, Journey raised some eyebrows when they performed on one of the main stages at Lollapalooza. But, as it turns out, lots of Gen Z kids are fans of the former monsters of rock.
