Guitarist Marcus King will release his next album, Young Blood, on August 26 as his first in a new deal with Rick Rubin’s American Records/Republic. The project re-teams the 26-year-old phenom with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. who previously produced King’s 2020 solo album, El Dorado. Both that album and Young Blood were recorded at Auerbach’s Easy Eye studio in Nashville.
Unlike El Dorado and King’s three earlier albums backed by his regular live band, Young Blood is a trio record featuring bassist and longtime Auerbach collaborator Nick Movshon and drummer Chris St. Hilare, who played percussion on El Dorado. The album’s first single, “Hard Working Man,” is a thumping love song with classic ‘70s rock vibes and one of King’s kookiest choruses to date.

The new material was written King and Auerbach, with additional assistance from Angelo Petraglia, who also co-wrote some tracks on the Black Keys’ upcoming album Dropout Boogie. Songwriter Desmond Child (Kiss, Aerosmith) lent a hand as well.
King has a busy spring/summer of touring ahead of him. He returns to the road on April 27 in San Diego and has dates in North America, the U.K. and Europe through the end of July.
