Carly Rae Jepsen is back with “Western Wind,” her first new song in two years. Jepsen has spent the past few weeks teasing fans with cryptic images alluding to the track on social media and billboards.

Produced by Rostam Batmanglij (with whom she worked with on 2015’s E*MO*TION), “Western Wind” is a warm, glistening pop track embellished by a delicate balance of sunny guitar tones and spirited piano. Jepsen’s vocal work enchants while her lyrical storytelling creates a sense of nostalgia and bittersweet joy. This acoustic focused track recalls Jepsen’s earlier work such as her folk-pop debut album Tug of War. Batmanglij is a long-time collaborator of Jepsen’s as they have been working together since her 2015 album E*MO*TION.

A music video shot by Taylor Fauntleroy also accompanies the release of the single. The visual accompaniment features natural settings in Southern California.

In a statement, Jepsen said that the song came from a place of deep solitude during quarantine, a period of time that she said pointed her most introspective songwriting yet.

Jepsen debuted “Western Wind” last month during her Coachella set, alongside tracks from her latest studio album from 2019, Dedicated, and E*MO*TION. If that’s not enough, a release promises that there will be more to come from Jepsen in 2022, so stay tuned.
