Next month, the Yoko Ono tribute album, Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono, which was compiled by Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, will be released on Canvasback Music. This album features a myriad of talented artists including David Byrne, Yo La Tengo, U.S. Girls, the Flaming Lips, Sharon Van Etten, and more.
The latest cut to be unveiled is Japanese Breakfast‘s take on Ono’s “Nobody Sees Me Like You Do.”

Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast shared her admiration for Ono on a podcast hosted by Gibbard and music writer Jenny Eliscu.
“She was the most – sort of – hated woman in music for a while – so unfairly – that I think, obviously, as an Asian woman, I sided with her, and saw her as a very deep and complex artist that was being unfairly judged by the world and how difficult that must have been. And it became very symbolic for me,” Zauner said.
The tribute album was announced earlier this month, coinciding with the release of its song by Byrne and Yo La Tengo, a cover of “Who Has Seen The Wind?” The project is set for release on February 18, which happens to be Yoko Ono’s 89th birthday.
Japanese Breakfast has been through a whirlwind of events this year including the release of their latest LP, Jubilee, two Grammy nominations, and the debut of Zauner’s writing career with the publication of her book, Crying in H Mart.
